Man hit with fine for filling out penalty notice form wrongly
FAILURE TO fill out a form properly led to a fixed penalty notice going unpaid, Gorey District Court was told last week.
Paul Harris (33) of 31 Ard na Graine, Bray, Co. Wicklow, had been caught travelling at 128 km/h in a 100 km/h zone at Parkbaun, Inch, Gorey. He had paid the fine, but on the form, omitted to write his name in block capitals in the space provided. He had signed it, and his name was printed on the form, solicitor David Tarrant pointed out, commenting that this was an ‘awful waste of court time’. ‘The money was sent in and returned,’ he said.
Judge O Buachalla commented that his hands were tied in the matter and imposed a fine of € 130.
