Tenants urged to buy local authority housing
WICKLOW Town Council are involved in a marketing strategy to encourage people to buy local authority housing they have been living in for some time.
Cllr. Pat Byrne feels something positive can come out of the current economic downturn as house prices continue to drop.
This would make it an ideal time for tenants in council houses to purchase.
‘Tenants should be encouraged to buy a house if they have been living there for say 10 to 15 years. Prices are drooping and valuations are lowering all the time.
‘I realise jobs are scarce, and as a result money is tight, but maybe members of the family could group together and help their parents purchase the property. It would be a great asset.’
The Council are currently engaged in a marketing strategy whereby discounts are available to tenants who have been living in a premises for a number of years.
According to Cllr. Byrne, ‘People would be interested, particularly if a family or tenants have lived in the same house for a long time.’
