Hogan is relishing showdown with Egan
DENIS HOGAN from the Grangecon Boxing Club faces the biggest fight of his life this weekend when he steps into the ring with Olympic silver medalist Kenny Egan.
Egan will be starting his quest for his ninth senior title in a row when the 2009 Elite national senior championships recommence at the National Stadium on Friday night.
The Neilstown boxer, who won his Olympic silver in Beijing last August, has already sparred with Denis Hogan in training camp in Spain and feels he has a good idea what to expect on Friday when they battle for a place in the light heavy-weight final.
However Egan holds no dread for the Grangecon clubman either and Hogan says he is really looking forward to the showdown with the Ireland’s Olympian.
Hogan, who landed the club’s first All-Ireland intermediate title in December, says: ‘To meet that man in competition would be unbelievable. He’s the best in the world as far as I’m concerned and it would be an honour and a privilege to step into the ring with him. I’ve great respect for Kenny, but I wouldn’t have any fear of him - sure I’ve been taking punches all my life.’
