Seag­ulls get Fut­sal League cam­paign off to good start

BRAY WAN­DER­ERS got their FAI Na­tional Fut­sal League cam­paign off to a good start on Satur­day with a 3-2 victory over Sport­ing Fin­gal and a 44 draw with Dun­dalk in DCU on Satur­day.

Wan­der­ers are com­pet­ing in the Le­in­ster Divi­sion of the com­pe­ti­tion along­side Dun­dalk, Sport­ing Fin­gal, Sham­rock Rovers, St. Pa­trick’s Ath­letic, Wex­ford Youths and Shel­bourne.

There are four places in the quar­ter-fi­nals on of­fer for teams com­pet­ing in the Le­in­ster Divi­sion, and with a €10,000 prize on of­fer and a chance to rep­re­sent Ire­land in the UEFA Fut­sal Cup in the sum­mer at stake; the lads will be treat­ing the com­pe­ti­tion with the ut­most re­spect.

Bray’s re­main­ing fix­tures are: Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 14 v. Sham­rock Rovers (11 a.m.) and v St. Pa­trick’s Ath­letic (12.40 p.m.). Both matches will be played at the Bas­ket­ball Arena, Tal­laght.

Then on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 28, at the same venue, Bray will take on Shel­bourne (12.40 p.m.) and Wex­ford Youths (4.00 p.m.).

n Three of Bray Wan­der­ers’ star fut­sal play­ers have been in­cluded in the Repub­lic of Ire­land fut­sal’s pro­vi­sional 16- man squad for the forth­com­ing UEFA Fut­sal Cham­pi­onship pre­lim­i­nary tour­na­ment which takes place in Tal­laght, Dublin.

Gary McCabe, Dane Massey and Shane O’Neill will rep­re­sent their coun­try af­ter re­ceiv­ing the call-up from Ire­land man­ager Derek O’Neill.

Two play­ers will be axed from the squad prior to Ire­land’s open­ing game against Cyprus on Thurs­day, Fe­bru­ary 19.

Next up would be Eng­land two days later, be­fore the lads would take on Kaza­khstan on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 22.
