Seagulls get Futsal League campaign off to good start
BRAY WANDERERS got their FAI National Futsal League campaign off to a good start on Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Sporting Fingal and a 44 draw with Dundalk in DCU on Saturday.
Wanderers are competing in the Leinster Division of the competition alongside Dundalk, Sporting Fingal, Shamrock Rovers, St. Patrick’s Athletic, Wexford Youths and Shelbourne.
There are four places in the quarter-finals on offer for teams competing in the Leinster Division, and with a €10,000 prize on offer and a chance to represent Ireland in the UEFA Futsal Cup in the summer at stake; the lads will be treating the competition with the utmost respect.
Bray’s remaining fixtures are: Saturday, February 14 v. Shamrock Rovers (11 a.m.) and v St. Patrick’s Athletic (12.40 p.m.). Both matches will be played at the Basketball Arena, Tallaght.
Then on Saturday, February 28, at the same venue, Bray will take on Shelbourne (12.40 p.m.) and Wexford Youths (4.00 p.m.).
n Three of Bray Wanderers’ star futsal players have been included in the Republic of Ireland futsal’s provisional 16- man squad for the forthcoming UEFA Futsal Championship preliminary tournament which takes place in Tallaght, Dublin.
Gary McCabe, Dane Massey and Shane O’Neill will represent their country after receiving the call-up from Ireland manager Derek O’Neill.
Two players will be axed from the squad prior to Ireland’s opening game against Cyprus on Thursday, February 19.
Next up would be England two days later, before the lads would take on Kazakhstan on Sunday, February 22.
