McShane hopes to win fit­ness race

REPUB­LIC OF IRE­LAND man­ager Gio­vanni Tra­p­at­toni will to­day make a late de­ci­sion on the fit­ness of Kilped­der na­tive Paul McShane ahead of tonight’s World Cup Qual­i­fier against Ge­or­gia.

McShane, 23, sat out train­ing on Sun­day, but did take part in Mon­day’s ses­sion in Malahide.

The Sun­der­land de­fender re­ported for in­ter­na­tional duty de­spite still suf­fer­ing the ef­fects of the ham­string in­jury he suf­fered dur­ing his side’s victory over Ful­ham when he ap­peared as a sec­ond-half sub­sti­tute and has missed Sun­der­land’s last three games as a re­sult.

The for­mer St. David’s stu­dent is listed in the pro­vi­sional start­ing 11 and a fi­nal de­ci­sion on his fit­ness will be made closer to kick­off.
