A bitter wind blew down from Kilcavan Hill and Gerry Fleming warned of sub zero temperatures but that didn’t stop Carnew’s first training session of the new year going ahead last Friday night. Forty or so hard souls braved the Arctic conditions to be put through their paces by Fran Fitzhenry. It did not take long for the steam to rise as the session was a tough one and more of the same will stand to our lads in the coming months. Fran’s all new backroom team of John Joe Myers and Graham Keogh were also unveiled to the players. The two lads were involved as players up until this year so they know the panel very well which should help the new management structure mix well. We wish them well for the long season.
Carnew are due to begin their defence of the Senior football league against AGB next Sunday. This game is still to be confirmed but hopefully will go ahead.
Saturday saw the Minors back training early also as they are out in the Gorey District hurling league next Sunday morning away against Ferns. This early season competition is a good platform for our young team to build up some match practice at a quiet time of the year.
There was no winner of the club lotto draw held last Monday week. The numbers drawn were 11, 13, 16 and 26. The four lucky dip winners of €50 were Betty Gordon, Billy Molloy, Lynn McGee and Esso Gorey Staff. The ticket sales were again good.
