Lorraine’s close call
IT WAS a close call for Delgany medal winner Lorraine Whelan who last week took three hard-earned medals for skiing at the Special Olympics World Games in Idaho.
On the day before she won her first gold medal an accident on the slope saw the local woman carted off to the hospital for treatment and for a brief moment she worried that her hopes of victory were dashed.
‘Thankfully it was nothing serious,’ said her father Brendan. ‘She skied brilliantly the next day to take gold!’
