AN AUGHRIM woman was fined €1,000 and put off the road for one year when she appeared before Judge Murrough Connellan at last Tuesday’s sitting of Wicklow District Court.

Maria Johnstone, 45 Pinewood Grove, Aughrim, was charged with drunken driving at Corballis, Rath- drum on September 21, 2007.

She pleaded guilty in court on Tuesday to the charge but had previously pleaded not guilty and the case had been for hearing last week.

Acting for Johnstone solicitor Dermot Hickey said she had decided to plead guilty days after her last appear- ance in court. The court heard Johnstone had a blood alcohol concentration of 96mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood and had no previous convictions.

Judge Connellan then fined her €1,000 and put her off the road for one year.

He postponed the driving ban until June 1, 2009.
