Rowers pack bags to raise skiff funds
GREYSTONES Rowing club has a new rowing skiff on order with a bill of €15,000 for the vessel. They have already raised half that sum, with a total of € 4,500 generously donated by shoppers at Tesco Greystones last weekend.
The junior members came out in force to pack bags for the people of Greystones from Thursday to Sunday. Spokesman Ciaran Hayden said that there was no drop in money donated since last year, even though they expected something of a decrease.
‘We are delighted,’ he said, adding that 40 members gave their time over the weekend to pack bags.
The next fundraising event will be a pub quiz on March 6 at the Beach House at a cost of €40 per team of four and with some great prizes on the night.
Greystones Rowing club is going strong and about to embark on a new season. They will be back in the water from March 31 and will be there every evening until the end of September. There are now 130 members, 20 more than last year.
