Row­ers pack bags to raise skiff funds

GREY­STONES Row­ing club has a new row­ing skiff on or­der with a bill of €15,000 for the ves­sel. They have al­ready raised half that sum, with a to­tal of € 4,500 gen­er­ously do­nated by shop­pers at Tesco Grey­stones last week­end.

The ju­nior mem­bers came out in force to pack bags for the peo­ple of Grey­stones from Thurs­day to Sun­day. Spokesman Ciaran Hay­den said that there was no drop in money do­nated since last year, even though they ex­pected some­thing of a de­crease.

‘We are de­lighted,’ he said, adding that 40 mem­bers gave their time over the week­end to pack bags.

The next fundrais­ing event will be a pub quiz on March 6 at the Beach House at a cost of €40 per team of four and with some great prizes on the night.

Grey­stones Row­ing club is go­ing strong and about to em­bark on a new sea­son. They will be back in the wa­ter from March 31 and will be there ev­ery evening un­til the end of Septem­ber. There are now 130 mem­bers, 20 more than last year.
