Dole fig­ure up 561 in a month

UN­EM­PLOY­MENT fig­ures in Bray have con­tin­ued to rise this month, with 561 more peo­ple sign­ing on since the last set of fig­ures were release by the CSO over four weeks ago.

There are now 3,850 peo­ple sign­ing on in Bray, com­pared to 1,937 in Jan­uary 2008. This rep­re­sents a to­tal in­crease of 99 per cent in just one year.

Of those, the ma­jor­ity are men aged 25 and over – this par­tic­u­lar group amount­ing to 2,039 peo­ple.

Mea­sures have been put in place at the so­cial wel­fare of­fice in the town to cope with huge num­bers of peo­ple stand­ing in queues to sign on, in­clud­ing an al­pha­bet­i­cal queu­ing sys­tem and stag­gered times of ap­point­ment.
