Ballywaltrim library hours curtailed to save money
IT HAS BEEN confirmed by Wicklow County Library Services that Ballywaltrim library hours are to be curtailed as a cost-cutting measure. The cost reductions include a substantial cut in the book fund in addition to the exchequer imposed abolition of the school book fund across the county.
The County Librarian Brendan Martin has written to Ms. Christine Flood, the Town Clerk, for confirmation.
Maintenance and building repair across Wicklow libraries can only be sustained in the short-term, while overheads, central administration, outreach and travel have also been cut.
Management decided that as Bray has two libraries, the required cutback would be made to Ballywaltrim. Opening hours are to be reduced from 34 to 23 per week with the service open four days. The changes are expected to take effect in March or April.
