Good trade at Carnew show
THE ANNUAL show and sale of Beef and Store bullocks at Carnew Mart saw a very large entry with 925 head on offer last Saturday.
Carnew Mart said there was an excellent selling trade for all classes with strong demand from local agents, midland factorie,s and Northern Ireland, for the beef and live exporters were very active for the quality stores and weanlings.
The Champion Beef Bullock winner was Derry Rothwell, Tinahealy, with his 810kg Belgian Blue at €1,740. The runner up was Norman Spencer, Gorey, with his 868kg Limousin at €1,700.
The winner of the Best Four Continental Beef Bullocks was Peter Behan, Ballinglen, with four Belgian Blues, 809kg, at €1,470.
Martin Fortune of Gorey, won the best non-Continental Factory Type Bullocks with his 590kg Aberdeen Angus at €1,045.
The Best Two Continental Bullock over 550kg category went to Patrick Fortune of Gorey, with his two Bull Limousins, 806kg at €1,552.
Sam Horan, Ballinglen, won the Best Two Continental Bullock under 450kg, with two Charolis Bulls, 370kg, at €785.
The winner of The Best Continental Store Bullock went to Pat Whelan, Baltinglass, with his Charolis Bull, 618kg at €1,250.
Padraig Murphy, Ramsgrange, won the Best Weanling Bull with his Belgium Blue Bull at 520kg at €1,270.
