Good trade at Carnew show

THE AN­NUAL show and sale of Beef and Store bul­locks at Carnew Mart saw a very large en­try with 925 head on of­fer last Satur­day.

Carnew Mart said there was an ex­cel­lent sell­ing trade for all classes with strong de­mand from lo­cal agents, mid­land fac­to­rie,s and North­ern Ire­land, for the beef and live ex­porters were very ac­tive for the qual­ity stores and wean­lings.

The Cham­pion Beef Bul­lock win­ner was Derry Roth­well, Ti­na­healy, with his 810kg Bel­gian Blue at €1,740. The run­ner up was Nor­man Spencer, Gorey, with his 868kg Li­mousin at €1,700.

The win­ner of the Best Four Con­ti­nen­tal Beef Bul­locks was Peter Be­han, Ballinglen, with four Bel­gian Blues, 809kg, at €1,470.

Martin For­tune of Gorey, won the best non-Con­ti­nen­tal Fac­tory Type Bul­locks with his 590kg Aberdeen An­gus at €1,045.

The Best Two Con­ti­nen­tal Bul­lock over 550kg cat­e­gory went to Pa­trick For­tune of Gorey, with his two Bull Li­mousins, 806kg at €1,552.

Sam Ho­ran, Ballinglen, won the Best Two Con­ti­nen­tal Bul­lock un­der 450kg, with two Charo­lis Bulls, 370kg, at €785.

The win­ner of The Best Con­ti­nen­tal Store Bul­lock went to Pat Whe­lan, Balt­in­glass, with his Charo­lis Bull, 618kg at €1,250.

Padraig Mur­phy, Rams­grange, won the Best Wean­ling Bull with his Bel­gium Blue Bull at 520kg at €1,270.
