Disgraced banker snubs Oireach­tas Com­mit­tee meet­ing

DISGRACED Grey­stones banker Sean Fitz­patrick, the for­mer chair of An­glo Ir­ish Bank snubbed an Oireach­tas Com­mit­tee meet­ing yes­ter­day into his deal­ings.

Mem­bers of the com­mit­tee, in­clud­ing Bray’s Deputy Joe Be­han, pledged how­ever to look for new laws forc­ing peo­ple in such cases to an­swer their ques­tions.

‘This is not an end to the mat­ter,’ said Michal Moyni­han, chair­man of Dail’s Eco­nomic and Reg­u­la­tory Af­fairs Com­mit­tee.

Mr. Fitz­patrick was sup­posed to ap­pear be­fore the com­mit­tee yes­ter­day af­ter­noon to an­swer ques­tions about loans he re­ceived of €87 mil­lion from An­glo Ir­ish Bank.

He was also due to face ques­tions about €300 mil­lion in loans to 10 in­vestors used to buy the bank’s own shares.

Fitz­patrick re­signed from An­glo Ir­ish Bank be­fore tak­ing an ex­tended hol­i­day in South Africa.

He com­mented that he would not at­tend the meet­ing at Le­in­ster House due to le­gal rea­sons.
