Disgraced banker snubs Oireachtas Committee meeting
DISGRACED Greystones banker Sean Fitzpatrick, the former chair of Anglo Irish Bank snubbed an Oireachtas Committee meeting yesterday into his dealings.
Members of the committee, including Bray’s Deputy Joe Behan, pledged however to look for new laws forcing people in such cases to answer their questions.
‘This is not an end to the matter,’ said Michal Moynihan, chairman of Dail’s Economic and Regulatory Affairs Committee.
Mr. Fitzpatrick was supposed to appear before the committee yesterday afternoon to answer questions about loans he received of €87 million from Anglo Irish Bank.
He was also due to face questions about €300 million in loans to 10 investors used to buy the bank’s own shares.
Fitzpatrick resigned from Anglo Irish Bank before taking an extended holiday in South Africa.
He commented that he would not attend the meeting at Leinster House due to legal reasons.
