A TRIP along the Inchavore River from source to sea was a welcome challenge for three friends from Roundwood recently as they raised €5,000 for the ISPCC.

Ronan Smith, Susan Doyle and Cillian Johnston set off in their kayaks in recent weeks and made the two day trip which finished up in Arklow.

‘We were thrilled with all the support and through sponsorship and donations we were able to give something back to this charity which is a very worthy cause,’ explained Ronan.

This is the first such event the trio has been involved in and they now agree they have caught the water challenge bug. ‘This is going to be an annual event from now on and our next challenge will be the Waterways of Ireland event which goes from East to West.

‘This will take a bit more than two days but we really want to get involved,’ he added.

After a testing trip along the Inchavore River Ronan, Susan and Cillian were invited into the River Café on the Riverwalk by proprietor

Teresa Corkish who treated them to steaming hot coffee and some well deserved lunch.

Thanks to all who generously supported the challenge and wished the kayakers well.
