Arklow United teams in flying form
ARKLOW UNITED got off to a great start this weekend in their cup matches. First up was the U9A team against Arklow Town at Ferndale Park and like all local derbys this was an exciting game with United proving to be the stronger side, hitting the net no less than five times, with goals from Glen Power, Ciarán O’Shea, Peter Hempenstall and Rhys Lacey to put them through.
The U9Bs were at home to Ashford on Sunday and this was a very tight match between the two sides with Arklow’s Shane Connolly scoring the only goal in the match to give United the win and secure their place in the semifinals.
The U-10 team met Ardmore Rovers at Ferndale Park on the same morning and this game had plenty of goals in it with Arklow leading 4-0 at half-time, goals from Shane Halpin, Ger Hackett and Cormac O’Shea.
Ardmore came back with three goals in the second-half, but Arklow remained strong to hold on to secure the win.
The U-13 team played a strong games against Wolfe Tone at Ferndale Park on Saturday morning with the Arklow Side leading 3-2 at half-time, finishing up 5-2 when the whistle blew with goals from Jonathan Roche, Stephen Doyle and Eoghan Carroll.
The U-12 Division 3 team travelled to Wicklow town for the play-off match at Finlay Park, and once again this team gave a great all round team performance with goals from Kevin O’Regan, Paddy Sheehan, Jack Furlong and Daniel Wlazlak to secure the win, to move Arklow United up into Division 2.
