Ref dispute rumbles on
THE DISPUTE between the the Wicklow and District Football League and its referees looks set to rumble on for another week at least, writes Daniel Gorman.
The referees are still standing by their decision to withdraw their services and with the WDFL not wanting to change their ruling on the infamous assalut on referee Thomas ‘Tucker’ Dowling, it looks set to stay that way.
Speaking on Eastcoast FM on Sunday night Wicklow League PRO David Whelan said ‘we really don’t know at this stage’ as regards whether or not the situation would be sorted out in the near future and could only say he hoped that it would eventually be resolved.
He also revealed that no meetings had been planned between the two parties so it looks like the football pitches of Wicklow will remain mostly empty for another week.
