Driver ad­mits cannabis was for own use

AN ARK­LOW MAN found in pos­ses­sion of drugs has been fined € 100 and put off the road for one year.

Bren­dan Mates with an ad­dress at 101 Fern­hill was charged by Garda Kieran Kennedy on April 6, 2008 at Cool­gre­aney Road.

The court heard that dur­ing the course of a check­point the de­fen­dant’s car was searched and a quan­tity of cannabis was found in the hand­brake area which he ad­mit­ted was for his own use.

Judge Mur­rough Con­nel­lan said that as he was us­ing a ve­hi­cle dur­ing the course of a crime he must im­pose a dis­qual­i­fi­ca­tion.
