Crowd wowed by fresh talent
SOME OF Bray’s young people raised a phenomenal € 7,000 for charity last Saturday night at the town’s newest live music venue, The Rubyroom, formerly known as Liquid and even more formerly known as the Disco Bar in Katie’s.
Ardmore Park woman Caoimhe Duane, who a year ago lost her beloved mother Breda to cancer, was the driving force behind organising the second annual charity gig in aid of Bray Cancer Support Centre.
The performance was held in loving memory of Breda with local heroes Peakin’ Trippers deciding to come out of hibernation in advance of their single launch in the Village next month to headline the concert. Breda’s son Cillian plays lead guitar for the popular band who are set to release their second single ‘Forgotten Man’, in March. The video for the new song is currently available on Youtube.
The Popular Front were nothing short of spectacular with a unique, refreshing and incredibly tight delivery and an irresistibly grungy style. They sold their CDs on the night with all the money generously donated directly to Bray Cancer Support.
Saoirse Duane also paid tribute to her mother, with a great set from her band Wyvern Lingo. Soairse plays guitar in Wyvern Lingo, which is settling in to a distinct acoustic style.
Caoimhe stole the show when she was invited up by acoustic support act Naylor and Pok to astound the audience as always with her incredible vocal dexterity. She sang a few songs, including Valerie, and Lady Stardust.
Breda’s husband Dave was delighted that the huge crowd had poured in to the venue to raise money for a worthy cause. ‘The work that they do is very necessary,’ said Mr. Duane of Bray Cancer Support.
