Four palliative nurses start work in coming weeks

Bray People - - News -

A TOTAL of four palliative care nurses have been hired to work within the Co. Wicklow area and are due to commence work in the coming weeks.

That’s according to Mayor of Arklow Nicky Kelly who confirmed the news following a meeting of the Regional Health Forum in recent days.

Cllr. Kelly told the Wicklow People that he was delighted to learn of the move which will restore a certain level of this vital care to Co. Wicklow cancer patients who have been without for far too long.

‘This is a real break- through for the county which has been ignored for some time now in the area of palliative care. These nurses are highly skilled and trained and will no doubt provide comfort and expertise to many families in the region who have for too long carried the burden of caring for their loved ones without the support they deserve,’ he said.

Cllr. Kelly added that there is still a long way to go to getting an adequate number of nurses employed but that this is a major and welcome step in the right direction.
