Project wel­comes all gar­den­ing fans

KEEN GARDENERS in Aughrim with plenty of com­mu­nity spirit are be­ing asked to trawl through their old tools and equip­ment in a bid to help a new lo­cal ini­tia­tive to get mov­ing.

The brand new com­mu­nity gar­den­ing project aims to en­cour­age, in­form and teach lo­cal res­i­dents young and old all about or­ganic gar­den­ing and to reap some re­wards in the process in the form of fresh lo­cally grown pro­duce.

This vol­un­tary and non-profit so­cial project is open to all and is seek­ing as much lo­cal sup­port as pos­si­ble.

Any­one in­ter­ested in get­ting in­volved is asked to grab their gar­den­ing gloves and turn up at the site across from the Aughrim GAA pitch at 2p.m. on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 28.

As with any such project cer­tain equip­ment is re­quired so or­gan­is­ers are ap­peal­ing for do­na­tions to in­clude any of the fol­low­ing items; gar­den shed; bark mulch; card­board ; paving slabs; gravel; lum­ber; re­claimed bricks; hand tools; shov­els; forks; wa­ter butts; straw; or­ganic potting com­post; plant pots; wa­ter­ing cans; gar­den benches or gar­den fur­ni­ture; trel­lis­ing; gar­den­ing books.

All con­tri­bu­tions will be grate­fully ac­cepted as will as many vol­un­teers as pos­si­ble.
