AN ARKLOW MAN who hit a barman in the presence of Gardaí has been bound to the peace for one year at District Court.

Eugene Kinsella with an address at 12 Glenview Avenue, Thomastown was charged with intoxication in a public place and threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour at The Gin Mill on January 25, 2009. Garda Aidan Whelan told the court that he attended the venue following a report of a fight on the premises.

Upon arrival Kinsella was restrained by a barman and when he was released to speak to Gardaí lashed out at the staff member.

He subsequently called Sgt. Gabriel Plower a w**ker and invited him to fight out- side the Garda Station.

Kinsella told the court that he was trying to break up a fight between two others at a party and hit the barman unintentionally.

He denied verbally abusing Gardaí.

Commenting that Kinsella is a ‘bit long in the tooth for such behaviour’ he ordered him to enter the peace bond for €250.
