Doyle wins Stapleton Cup
THE SEVENTH round of the Southern Centre Irish Championship was held by Leinster Motor Club in Aurora Wood Glencree Co. Wicklow recently. The “Stapleton Cup” was awarded to the overall winner of the trial Seán Doyle. Seán took the Grade A class from his rival Paul McLoughlin (who is also Seán’s uncle and mentor for international events).
Grade B saw Seán’s younger brother Cillian ride to his best position so far in third place.
Local men Brian McLoughlin and Johnny Carroll rode to fifth and sixth places respectively.
Grade C saw Ger Redden take second place, while Tom Buttler, Alan Stokes and Frankie Blackburn fought out a close encounter finishing in 8th, 9th and 11th respectively.
Grade D saw Emmet Stokes in fourth clear of a good battle between Jasper O’Toole and Rudy De Vreede for 9th and 10th place.
Bill O’ Toole rode to a final podium position in Junior B, while Ashford young gun Seán Phelan came fifth in Junior C.
