Murphy’s the man for Avonmore

Bray People - - Sport -

Avonmore FC 4, St. Anthony’s 2: Johnny Murphy was very much the man of the hour for his Avonmore side last Sunday after notching a hat-trick.

DIVISION 2 The striker, along with a Dean Gahan strike, ensured that all three points would be staying in Avonmore, while St. Anthony’s would be returning to Kilcoole with nothing to show for their efforts.

This win now sees them go top of the pile on goal difference over Arklow Town, who have a game more to play.

As we approach the midway stage in Division 2 there are still several sides that look capable of mounting a serious title challenge, and Avonmore will certainly fancy their chances.

John Keogh and Shane McGowan were on target for the Kilcoole side.

Redbank United 1, Arklow United 5: Redbank United’s defensive woes continued at the weekend when they shipped five against fellow relegation candidates Arklow United.

Redbank now unfortunately look like they will be playing their football in Division 3 next year, barring a miracle, while Arklow should have enough in the tank to see themselves safe.

Brian White hit a brace, while Richard Conroy, Chris Kavanagh and William Roche all hit singles for the visitors.

Ballywaltrim FC 5, Fassaroe YC 3: Ballywaltrim FC collected another three points in this local derby against Little Bray outfit Fassaroe YC.

There were only a handful of points separating the two sides before this match but the hosts used their home advantage well in this high scoring affair.

Seán O’Brien, Darren Devlin, Jordan Devlin, Stephen Dunwoody and Tarik Taha were all on target for Ballywaltrim, while Wayne O’Connor, Paddy O’Brien and Coxy found the net for the away side.

St. Kevin’s 1, Celtic Stars 0: Kevin Olohan was the hero for St. Kevin’s when his solitary strike earned his side all three points in this Division 2 clash.

The promotion hopefuls kept their promotion bid on track with a harder than expected victory over Celtic Stars.

This weekend Kevin’s face a huge Thomas Scott Cup semifinal clash with St. Patrick’s in what is sure to be a very good game.
