Motorists wait... but not on waiting list says NCTS
BRAY MOTORISTS are unimpressed by assurances from the National Car Testing Service that there is no long wait to have their vehicles tested.
Neil Ogilvy, from Wolfe Tone Square, in Bray, said he went online last week to be be offered ‘ a first available’ test date of November 18, this despite a recent statement by the NCTS that motorists could be accommodated ‘tomorrow’ if they wanted to be.
‘There was no option of an earlier date, nothing at all,’ said Mr. Ogilvy, following assertions to the contrary by the NCTS.
‘ If you ring today you will more than likely get an appointment in two weeks’ time. There is no such thing as a waiting list. That’s a popular misconception,’ said an NCTS spokeswoman.
When asked about the discrepancy between what was being said officially and what some motorists were being told, the NCTS spokeswoman said motorists should have been asked whether he wanted to be put on a call back list for an earlier date.
She said the call back option should be offered to anyone requesting an earlier test date than that assigned and she would ensure that drivers booking tests were given this information when they called to book a test. However, armed with this information, Mr. Ogilvy phoned the NCTS to see if he could book an earlier date. He was told there had been no cancellations and he should ring back next week. He was not offered the option of a call back from the NCTS.
His experiences were similar to those of another Bray motorist and others else we here in the area.
‘I tried to book an earlier test than November, but was told there was nothing available,’ said a Bray woman, who asked not to be identified.
