Lady row­ers take gold in na­tional con­test

ARK­LOW ROW­ING Club con­tin­ued its run of suc­cess re­cently at the Al­lIre­land Row­ing Cham­pi­onships in Water­ville, Co. Kerry when the Vet­eran Ladies Crew struck gold.

The crew com­prised Tilly Jor­dan in stroke, Jac­qui Pen­ston in num­ber two, Deirdre Magh­ery in num­ber three and Jes­sica Lee in the bow. They were coxed by Shane Cul­li­ton.

The row­ers did it with style, winning the race by two clear boat lengths.

An­other of the 11 crews from Ark­low who com­peted the Un­der-14 crew came third in their race. With crew mem­bers David Shee­han in stroke, Robert Brad­shaw in num­ber two, Sean Buck­ley in num­ber three and Robert Lyons in the bow thrilled with the win. They were coxed by Ge­orge O’ Brien. An im­pres­sive nine of the 11 com­pet­ing Ark­low crews made it to the fi­nals on Sun­day with the Un­der 21 crew fin­ish­ing in fourth place and the se­nior ladies crew fin­ish­ing in fifth place.
