Tour­ney was a great suc­cess

ARK­LOW TOWN Foot­ball Club was the set­ting for a won­der­ful two days of top school­boy foot­ball at the week­end in the in­au­gu­ral Chil­dren First In­ter­na­tional Tour­na­ment at Bridgewater Cen­tre Park.

English club Sh­effield United emerged vic­to­ri­ous putting on a pow­er­ful dis­play in the fi­nal to ease past gal­lant Pol­ish vis­i­tors KS Pi­aseczno.

The tour­na­ment kicked off early on Satur­day morn­ing with six com­pet­ing teams from five dif­fer­ent na­tions. Sh­effield United proved too strong for a youth­ful North Dublin School­boy League side while Pi­asezcno were ac­count­ing for Olympic Club Chateaudun.

The home club Ark­low Town over­came the chal­lenge of Czech side HS Kromeriz, with striker Shane Walker show­cas­ing his tal­ent with a won­der­ful free kick, placed into the left cor­ner.

The Czech side im­proved though with each game and at the end of the first day’s play it was Sh­effield United out clear with Pi­aseczno, Kromeriz and Ark­low Town in the hunt. A draw in their last group game saw the Pol­ish side through to face Sh­effield United while Ark­low Town and Kromeriz met for a sec­ond time in the Plate Fi­nal. North Dublin saved their best per­for­mance till last, suc­cess in the Bowl Fi­nal with a su­perb goal against Chateaudun.

Town mid­fielder Craig Kin­sella se­cured a home suc­cess in the Plate Fi­nal with a su­perb fin­ish from out­side the box, lift­ing over Czech ‘keeper Mi­lan Kuchar. In the In­ter­na­tional Cup Fi­nal, English side Sh­effield United proved too strong for Pi­aseczno with pow­er­ful for­ward Will Warhurst net­ting a hat­trick.
