Tourney was a great success
ARKLOW TOWN Football Club was the setting for a wonderful two days of top schoolboy football at the weekend in the inaugural Children First International Tournament at Bridgewater Centre Park.
English club Sheffield United emerged victorious putting on a powerful display in the final to ease past gallant Polish visitors KS Piaseczno.
The tournament kicked off early on Saturday morning with six competing teams from five different nations. Sheffield United proved too strong for a youthful North Dublin Schoolboy League side while Piasezcno were accounting for Olympic Club Chateaudun.
The home club Arklow Town overcame the challenge of Czech side HS Kromeriz, with striker Shane Walker showcasing his talent with a wonderful free kick, placed into the left corner.
The Czech side improved though with each game and at the end of the first day’s play it was Sheffield United out clear with Piaseczno, Kromeriz and Arklow Town in the hunt. A draw in their last group game saw the Polish side through to face Sheffield United while Arklow Town and Kromeriz met for a second time in the Plate Final. North Dublin saved their best performance till last, success in the Bowl Final with a superb goal against Chateaudun.
Town midfielder Craig Kinsella secured a home success in the Plate Final with a superb finish from outside the box, lifting over Czech ‘keeper Milan Kuchar. In the International Cup Final, English side Sheffield United proved too strong for Piaseczno with powerful forward Will Warhurst netting a hattrick.
