Wicklow girls on Stella Maris cup winning side
WHILE the main story in the world of female sport in Ireland this weekend may have been the All-Ireland Camogie final on Sunday, there were three young women from County Wicklow who were also involved in a big final.
Niamh Kearney, Deirdre Mulligan and Sarah Miley were all part of the Stella Maris team that beat Killala FC 3-0 in the FAI Umbro Womens Challenge Cup on Sunday.
Deirdre used to play for Kilmac side Glen- cormac United, while Sarah Miley is a former Roundwood AFC star and Niamh Kearney, who scored on of the Dublin side’s goals and was voted Best Player of the Final, played for Newtown United prior to switching to Stella.
All three girls are members of the Wicklow Ladies Academy which takes place every Monday night in Finn Park, Kilcoole between 8 and 9 pm.
