Shelton Abbey prisoners had mobile phones hidden
COURT APPEARANCES JUDGE LISTENS TO EXCUSES FROM A STRING OF OFFENDERS
A NUMBER OF people who had mobile phones hidden while imprisoned in Shelton Abbey, Arklow, have appeared before the district court.
Peter Flood from 5 Cherry Avenue, Swords, was charged after a search of his room recovered a phone on March 24 of this year. The court heard that he had the phone on in order to keep in contact with his partner after she had a health scare.
Michael James Keenan from 3 Meelagh View, Mahon, Cork, was charged on the same date and told the court he accepts responsibility for his actions. Charges of having a mobile phone at his room in Shelton were also brought against John Rooney, 20 Milwood, Aughrim, dated January 29 and February 14, 2009.
Each of the defendants received sentences of three months which will be suspended for one year.
Denis Griffin from 12 Illen Court, Deanrock Estate, Cork, had his phone discovered on March 25. He failed to appear in court and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. A bench warrant was also issued for the arrest of Martin Mongan of White Strand, Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare.
