Shel­ton Abbey pris­on­ers had mo­bile phones hid­den

COURT AP­PEAR­ANCES JUDGE LIS­TENS TO EX­CUSES FROM A STRING OF OF­FEND­ERS

A NUM­BER OF peo­ple who had mo­bile phones hid­den while im­pris­oned in Shel­ton Abbey, Ark­low, have ap­peared be­fore the district court.

Peter Flood from 5 Cherry Av­enue, Swords, was charged af­ter a search of his room re­cov­ered a phone on March 24 of this year. The court heard that he had the phone on in or­der to keep in con­tact with his part­ner af­ter she had a health scare.

Michael James Keenan from 3 Mee­lagh View, Mahon, Cork, was charged on the same date and told the court he ac­cepts re­spon­si­bil­ity for his ac­tions. Charges of hav­ing a mo­bile phone at his room in Shel­ton were also brought against John Rooney, 20 Mil­wood, Aughrim, dated Jan­uary 29 and Fe­bru­ary 14, 2009.

Each of the de­fen­dants re­ceived sen­tences of three months which will be sus­pended for one year.

De­nis Grif­fin from 12 Illen Court, Dean­rock Es­tate, Cork, had his phone dis­cov­ered on March 25. He failed to ap­pear in court and a bench war­rant was is­sued for his ar­rest. A bench war­rant was also is­sued for the ar­rest of Martin Mon­gan of White Strand, Mil­town Mal­bay, Co. Clare.
