Sci­ence in­vi­ta­tion for pri­mary pupils

WICK­LOW SCHOOLS are be­ing urged to take part in the Dis­cover Pri­mary Sci­ence pro­gramme.

The pro­gramme which will fo­cus on Sci­ence and Maths Ex­cel­lence 2010 will ac­knowl­edge the ef­forts of pri­mary school chil­dren and teach­ers across Ire­land who have shown an in­creased knowl­edge of sci­ence and maths. Last year, 19 pri­mary schools in Wick­low won an award and it is hoped that this fig­ure will in­crease in 2010.

The 19 Wick­low schools that re­ceived Awards of Sci­ence Ex­cel­lence are Scoil Mhuire Realt na Mara, Moneystown Na­tional School, Saint An­drew’s Na­tional School, Del­gany Na­tional School, Jonathan Swift Na­tional School, Glebe Na­tional School, St. Joseph’s Girls Na­tional School, St.Joseph’s Na­tional School, St. Mary’s & St. Ger­ard’s Na­tional School, St. Mary’s Na­tional School, St. Pa­trick’s Loreto Pri­mary School, Scoil Aodán Naofa, Marino School, St. Peter’s Boys Na­tional School, St. Fer­gal’s Ju­nior School, St. Cather­ine’s Spe­cial School, St. Lau­rence’s Na­tional School, Wick­low Ed­u­cate To­gether Na­tional School and Pow­er­scourt Na­tional School.

Schools reg­is­tered un­der the DPS pro­gramme ap­ply­ing for an Award of Sci­ence & Maths Ex­cel­lence must keep a Dis­cover Log, record­ing their sci­ence re­lated work which must be sub­mit­ted by April 23.
