Chess club hosts Le­in­ster League fi­nals

BRAY-GREY­STONES Chess Club will host the 2010 Le­in­ster League Chess Fi­nals on Sun­day March 14, in the Es­planade Ho­tel, Bray. Cllr Stephen Stokes is pay­ing trib­ute to the ex­cel­lent vol­un­teer team who were suc­cess­ful with their bid ahead of sev­eral other Le­in­ster clubs.

With over 425 play­ers ex­pected to par­tic­i­pate, se­cur­ing Ire­land’s largest chess event marks a sig­nif­i­cant coup for the club.

The cham­pi­onships are also ex­pected to in­ject sev­eral thou­sand euro into the lo­cal North East Wick­low econ­omy. Mem­bers of the pub­lic are very wel­come to at­tend the pro­ceed­ings, with Divi­sion 1 com­menc­ing at 2.30pm.

In other good news for the club, 11 year old chess prodigy Conor O’Don­nell has been se­lected on the Le­in­ster U16 team for Ir­ish Ju­nior In­ter-Provin­cials, and is also set to be called into the Ire­land U12 team for the up­com­ing 4 na­tion’s cham­pi­onships.

Cllr Stephen Stokes has high praise for Conor, who is the per­fect role model for other young play­ers in any sport. Conor has an out­stand­ing work ethic, loves the game, and a ter­rific at­ti­tude.
