Chess club hosts Leinster League finals
BRAY-GREYSTONES Chess Club will host the 2010 Leinster League Chess Finals on Sunday March 14, in the Esplanade Hotel, Bray. Cllr Stephen Stokes is paying tribute to the excellent volunteer team who were successful with their bid ahead of several other Leinster clubs.
With over 425 players expected to participate, securing Ireland’s largest chess event marks a significant coup for the club.
The championships are also expected to inject several thousand euro into the local North East Wicklow economy. Members of the public are very welcome to attend the proceedings, with Division 1 commencing at 2.30pm.
In other good news for the club, 11 year old chess prodigy Conor O’Donnell has been selected on the Leinster U16 team for Irish Junior Inter-Provincials, and is also set to be called into the Ireland U12 team for the upcoming 4 nation’s championships.
Cllr Stephen Stokes has high praise for Conor, who is the perfect role model for other young players in any sport. Conor has an outstanding work ethic, loves the game, and a terrific attitude.
Bray-Greystones Chess Club is Ireland’s largest chess club meeting Wednesday evenings 7.30pm - 10pm in the Esplanade Hotel, catering for beginner to expert.
