Hal­i­fax to shut doors for good

HAL­I­FAX in Bray will close its doors for good on June 23, leav­ing seven em­ploy­ees in the lo­cal branch job­less.

Staff at the Hal­i­fax branches around the coun­try found out in Fe­bru­ary that the bank would pull out of Ire­land.

This fol­lowed months of spec­u­la­tion about the fu­ture of the busi­ness.

The re­tail arm of Bank of Scot­land (Ire­land) will close all its 44 branches in Ire­land this sum­mer with Hal­i­fax no longer tak­ing on any new cus­tomers. About 750 jobs in to­tal will be lost. Hal­i­fax cus­tomers are be­ing told that they ‘do not need to do any­thing at this stage and all their sav­ings and in­vest­ments re­main se­cure. All af­fected cus­tomers will be con­tacted shortly on what the next steps are, if any.’
