Halifax to shut doors for good
HALIFAX in Bray will close its doors for good on June 23, leaving seven employees in the local branch jobless.
Staff at the Halifax branches around the country found out in February that the bank would pull out of Ireland.
This followed months of speculation about the future of the business.
The retail arm of Bank of Scotland (Ireland) will close all its 44 branches in Ireland this summer with Halifax no longer taking on any new customers. About 750 jobs in total will be lost. Halifax customers are being told that they ‘do not need to do anything at this stage and all their savings and investments remain secure. All affected customers will be contacted shortly on what the next steps are, if any.’
