Life­guards wanted for the sum­mer

THE SUM­MER is ap­proach­ing, de­spite a chilly breeze that begs to dif­fer, and the beaches of County Wick­low will need life­guards for the sea­son.

Wick­low County Coun­cil is seek­ing applications from beach life­guards for the months of June, July and Au­gust 2010. The life­sav­ing sum­mer staff were spared last year from the Gov­ern­ment em­bargo on pub­lic sec­tor re­cruit­ment.

Beaches that will take on life-sav­ing per­son­nel in the county will be Ark­low, Brit­tas Bay, Bray, Grey­stones and Wick­low town.

Candidates must have a cur­rent Ir­ish Wa­ter Safety ‘Beach Life­guard Award,’ or the equiv­a­lent qual­i­fi­ca­tion from a dif­fer­ent coun­try.

They must also have knowl­edge of the use and care of life­sav­ing equip- ment and a thor­ough knowl­edge of re­sus­ci­ta­tion and ba­sic first aid.

Any­one in­ter­ested in the job must be at least 17 years of age on May 1 2010 and avail­able to un­dergo and Ir­ish Wa­ter Safety Life­guard Test in Dublin on April 21 at 5.30 p.m.

The wages for the po­si­tion are € 14 with a pro­jected 40-hour work­ing week and the dead­line for applications is 4 p.m. on Fri­day March 26.
