TRIP TO MOSQUE As part of their study of World Religions our Second Year students travelled to the Islamic Cultural Centre and Mosque in Clonskeagh. This trip has been very successful and enjoyable in previous years and this year’s group similarly enjoyed the experience. JUNIOR FOOTBALL Following their great win over Arklow Community College our First Year Boys Football team has now qualified for the semi-final of the competition. Best wishes to all. SENIOR FOOTBALL Our Senior Boys Football team had similar success over Scoil Chonglais, Baltinglass in their match on Thursday. They will now take on Abbey Community College in the semi-finals. Best wishes to all. UNDER-16 BASKETBALL Another successful game for our Under-16 Girls Basketball Team who beat Abbey Community College in a closely contested match on Tuesday. The team has now finished top of the league in the Under-16 section of the Wicklow/Wexford competition. SECOND-YEAR BASKETBALL Our Second Year Boys Basketball Team has qualified for the semi-final of the South East League. The game is scheduled for the coming week, best wishes to all. SENIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL Our Senior Girls Football Team took part in a blitz on Wednesday 10 March. Despite a slow start their first match ended in a draw with Colaiste Bhride, Carnew. They then played against St. Killians but were unlucky to lose by a point, narrowly missing out on a semi-final place as a result. UNDER-14 SCHOOL’S HURLING On Wednesday three of our students represented the school on the County Schools Hurling Team in a challenge game. The students Adam Cooney, John O’Halloran and Brendan Hawes enjoyed their match and were delighted to represent their school on the day. CHESS COMPETITION On Wednesday Avondale Community College hosted the second stage of the Chess Competition. Our team took second place on the day, losing out to a very strong team from Abbey Community College. Well done to our Second Year student Graham Juste who received an award for Most Improved Player. TRANS NEWS Having read Alice Sebold’s The Lovel Bones our Transition Year students enjoyed a special screening of the movie in the Gaiety Cinema in Arklow. The students enjoyed the opportunity of seeing how the novel was adapted for the big screen. Many thanks to the staff of Gaeity Cinema who facilated this viewing on Thursday morning. RATHDRUM TIDY TOWNS COMMITTEE Our Transition Year students will be joining the Tidy Town Committee in the coming weeks. They will be planting some new trees in the area in preparation for the upcoming Tidy Towns Competition. WORK EXPERIENCE A special thanks to all of the employers who provided our Fifth Year LCVP students with work experience. CAREERS On Thursday our Sixth and Fifth Year students enjoyed a talk from the staff of Waterford Institute of Technology about college life and courses available on their campus.
