The ladies team were in Tem­pleogue Ten­nis Club last week­end for the the Dublin Lawn Ten­nis Coun­cil Win­ter League Ladies Divi­sion 7 fi­nal against Naas.

Irene Ry­der and Kay Hickey main­tained their un­beaten record with an­other fine 6-4, 6-4 win while Martina Be­han and Caro­line Ka­vanagh fought hard, go­ing down 2-6, 6-4, 36.

The fi­nal reached a nail­bit­ing cli­max with the fi­nal match go­ing all the way to (2-6, 6-4) 7-5 in the third set, the Naas girls se­cur­ing the victory over the gal­lant Jacintha Kinch and He­len Fox who came very close to pulling of a shock win for the new­est club in Dublin League.

Back in Ark­low club play has gath­ered mo­men­tum with the Spring League at the semi-fi­nal stage and en­tries be­ing taken for the Seán Kelly Memo­rial Tour­na­ment. Seán, a for­mer Club Sec­re­tary and club stal­wart passed away 15 years ago and the com­pe­ti­tion has been the high­light of the club cal­en­dar since 1997.

Ju­nior Coach­ing con­tin­ues on Satur­day morn­ings with coach David Shee­han who will be run­ning Easter Camps at Ark­low Lawn Ten­nis Clubs’ ex­cel­lent fa­cil­i­ties on Cool­gre­aney Road and there is se­nior coach­ing with Pablo Plaza on Mon­day nights.
