Rath­new and Ark­low earn big wins

TI­TLE CHASERS Rath­new AFC and Ark­low Town both fur­ther en­hanced their ti­tle cre­den­tials at the week­end by pick­ing big wins.

League leaders Rath­new wel­comed strug­gling Dalkey United to Sham­rock Park and moved onto 39 points for the sea­son thanks to a dou­ble from the lethal Shane Doyle. Jamie Snell, Eric Dunne and Philip Mur­phy also chipped in with ef­forts in their 5-0 win over the Dublin­ers.

Ark­low Town’s victory came at the White­gates, where they faced tenth placed Wick­low Rovers and they went one bet­ter than the Vil­lagers, beat­ing Rovers 6-0. An Adam Moore­house brace, as well as strikes from Mati Blanchina, Kofi Poku, Mark Hardy and Gary Tyrrell en­sured the Black and Whites main­tained their 100 per cent league record. The Bridgewater Cen­tre Park side are now trail­ing Rath­new by nine points but have played four less games.

Grey­stones United re­main in sec­ond place af­ter the week­end’s action af­ter be­ing awarded a walkover by Bray side Ard­more Rovers.

Else­where, Glen­cor­mac United were in­volved in an­other thrilling game of foot­ball this week. The Glens found them­selves three goals to the good at the half-time break thanks to Eoin Boyle, Dan Hayes and Dean O’Neill.

But home side En­niskerry then shocked the Kil­mac side by fight­ing their way back onto level terms be­fore then tak­ing the lead. Seán Cleary was re­spon­si­ble for three of the goals, with Stephen Olo­han also on tar­get.

The vis­i­tors did man­age to sal­vage a point from the game near the end though when Eoin Boyle grabbed his sec­ond.

There were also wins this week for Granada B and Kill Celtic, who beat Beech­wood and Granada A re­spec­tively.
