Rathnew and Arklow earn big wins
TITLE CHASERS Rathnew AFC and Arklow Town both further enhanced their title credentials at the weekend by picking big wins.
League leaders Rathnew welcomed struggling Dalkey United to Shamrock Park and moved onto 39 points for the season thanks to a double from the lethal Shane Doyle. Jamie Snell, Eric Dunne and Philip Murphy also chipped in with efforts in their 5-0 win over the Dubliners.
Arklow Town’s victory came at the Whitegates, where they faced tenth placed Wicklow Rovers and they went one better than the Villagers, beating Rovers 6-0. An Adam Moorehouse brace, as well as strikes from Mati Blanchina, Kofi Poku, Mark Hardy and Gary Tyrrell ensured the Black and Whites maintained their 100 per cent league record. The Bridgewater Centre Park side are now trailing Rathnew by nine points but have played four less games.
Greystones United remain in second place after the weekend’s action after being awarded a walkover by Bray side Ardmore Rovers.
Elsewhere, Glencormac United were involved in another thrilling game of football this week. The Glens found themselves three goals to the good at the half-time break thanks to Eoin Boyle, Dan Hayes and Dean O’Neill.
But home side Enniskerry then shocked the Kilmac side by fighting their way back onto level terms before then taking the lead. Seán Cleary was responsible for three of the goals, with Stephen Olohan also on target.
The visitors did manage to salvage a point from the game near the end though when Eoin Boyle grabbed his second.
There were also wins this week for Granada B and Kill Celtic, who beat Beechwood and Granada A respectively.
