Wicklow Rovers 3, Greystones FC 1: It took Wicklow Rovers until the 70th minute to open the scoring in this one over the weekend despite peppering the Greystones goal with shot after shot after shot.

The host hit the woodwork and forced the Greystones goalkeeper into a string of top class saves before finally breaking the visitors stubborn defence when substitute Thomas Smullen and Paul O’Neill combined to set up David O’Sullivan, who fired his side into the lead.

With nine minutes remaining Rovers youngster Luke Byrne earned his side some breathing space when he netted their second with a cool one-on-one finish but four minutes later the hosts found their lead cut to a single strike once more when Greystones pulled one back through their striker.

There was to be no late comeback from Greystones however as O’Sullivan scored his second of the match with a fine individual effort to wrap up the win.
