Shillelagh 1-12 An Tochar 2-09

THE TWO highly regarded teams, Shillelagh and An Tochar met in Roundwood on Saturday in the first round of Division 2 of the SFL and fought out an exciting draw.

A strong enough wind blowing straight into the town goal was always going to turn this into a game of two halves.

The home side had first use of the wind and appeared to be making good enough use of that advantage.

With minutes to go to half-time Shillelagh won a penalty and the ever reliable Paddy Byrne blasted Peter Byrne’s net.

With half of their hard-earned lead gone things were looking bad for the home side but a minute later they too won a penalty and their man of the match Luke Ferguson did the needful to leave the half-time score An Tochar 2-6, Shillelagh 1-3.

As expcted Shillelagh got on top in the second-half and point by point hauled back the deficit to draw level with just minutes to go.

When Paddy Byrne sent over his sixth point of the match the Coollattin men were in front and looked to be home and dried.

In one last attack Luke Ferguson sent over a point from a free to save the day for An Tochar.
