OP­TIONS FOR SE­NIOR CY­CLE A most in­for­ma­tive meet­ing was held in St. Kevin’s re­cently to of­fer par­ents some ad­vice re­gard­ing op­tions for se­nior cy­cle. The op­tions dis­cussed on the night were Tran­si­tion Year, the L.C.V.P. pro­gramme and whole is­sue of sub­ject choice. Ms. H. Whyte ad­dressed par­ents re. the Tran­si­tion Year op­tion fol­low­ing an in­tro­duc­tion by Ms. Burke. Ms. Cado­gan gave some ad­vice re. the is­sue of sub­ject choice. In par­tic­u­lar, par­ents were asked to think care­fully in re­la­tion to the choice of a sci­ence sub­ject and a mod­ern lan­guage. Fi­nally, Ms. Camp­bell gave some ad­vice re. the L.C.V.P. pro­gramme. Par­ents were also strongly en­cour­aged to dis­cuss all of the above op­tions with their son/daugh­ter to en­sure that they have a good range of sub­jects for se­nior cy­cle. CELEBRITY CHEF INI­TIA­TIVE Celebrity Chef, Ed­ward Hay­den from Dun­brody Cook­ery School, Dun­brody Coun­try house ho­tel and restau­rant came to St. Kevin’s Com­mu­nity Col­lege re­cently as part of the JCSP Pro­gramme Ini­tia­tive ‘Celebrity Chef’. Ed­ward has pub­lish a cook­ery book Ed­ward En­ter­tains. Ed­ward demon­strated 4 dishes dur­ing a dou­ble pe­riod in­clud­ing lemon driz­zle cake, brown bread, éclairs and mixed fruit crum­ble. Ed­ward Hay­den did a demon­stra­tion for JCSP stu­dents com­plet­ing the home eco­nomics Ju­nior Cert course along with 3rd year Home eco­nomics stu­dents. There was a large at­ten­dance with the fol­low­ing JCSP stu­dents in at­ten­dance: Vanessa Dempsey, Jes­sica Dono­van, Michelle Dunne, An­thony Dempsey, Shauna Deegan, Amy But­ler, Michelle O’Neill, Kate­lyn Cor­co­ran, Char­lie Lyttle, Kim Mackey, Shauna Humphries. The stu­dents re­ported that they fully en­joyed the ex­pe­ri­ence and will be try­ing the recipes at home.
