Anne and red coat add splash of colour to Dáil
LABOUR'S ANNE FERRIS will cut a dash when she strolls into Leinster House next Wednesday, as she will be sporting what has become her trademark red coat.
Ferris retained the Labour seat which had been held by retiring TD, Liz McManus, in the wee hours of yesterday ( Tuesday) morning. She was deemed elected to the fourth seat with a final vote of 11,070, some 700 odd short of the quota.
‘ I am absolutely over the moon. Absolutely thrilled. I was delighted with my first preference vote although it could have been better. But as it was my first time out, the fact I had two running mates and the fact there was a lot of competition across the ballot paper I did well. ‘My two running mates had also run a great campaign but I always felt the transfers would see me over the line.'
Anne paid tribute to outgoing deputy, Liz McManus. ‘ The person I want to thank the most is Liz McManus. She has been a role model to me personally and also to women everywhere. She has been a tremendous TD for the last 18 years.' Anne paid tribute to her partner John, her family and her supporters who have ‘ been absolutely wonderful' and also thanked the local Labour representatives on the ground in the county who had been a great help to her.
