New face Donnelly secures final seat
AT THE START of this year very few people in Wicklow had ever heard of Stephen Donnelly and now he is representing the county in the incoming Dáil having secured the last seat in the constituency early yesterday morning ( Tuesday).
Donnelly was deemed elected shortly after 3am with a final vote of 9,966 and he took the final seat.
Speaking afterwards he said was ‘exhausted' but said it was great to be elected to represent the people of Wicklow.
Although there had been speculation that Fine Gael would try form an agreement with a number of like-minded Independents to form the 31st Dáil, Stephen said Fine Gael and Labour were in talks about forming the next Government.
However, he said he himself would start to talk to other Independents yesterday ‘ and see what happens'.
Stephen ruled out the possibility of joining one of the main political parties while in Government.
For Stephen there are three main areas of concerns, the economy including national and sovereign debt, education and political reform. In terms of his current job at McKinsey Ireland Donnelly said, ‘I guess I will be clearing out my desk. I haven't even thought about it.'
