Harris ‘baby’ of Leinster House
SIMON HARRIS is the baby of the Dáil having been elected shortly after 3am yesterday (Tuesday) morning. The Greystones man took the third seat in the constituency having been deemed elected with a final quote of 11,512, just 239 votes shy of the quota.
Aged just 24, Harris came to national prominence in June 2009 when he received three and a half times the quota in the local election.
Hoisted shoulder high Harris was thrilled to take the third seat. ‘I am absolutely delighted and elated with the endorsement from the people of Wicklow. I am relieved and tired that I was elected and can't believe I took the third seat.'
Simon feels his youth will be a great asset to him in Leinster House. ‘I will be the baby of the Dáil and I think it gives me a platform in which to express the views of my generation. Only a handful of TDs under 30 have ever been elected to the Dáil without a family connection.'
