Vance wants reform
PAT VANCE has called for reform in election count methods in Wicklow after it took more than three days to elect five TDs. ‘ There has to be a better way,' he said.
‘We didn't have a first count for 13 hours,' said Cllr. Vance. ‘ There were lots of counts in other parts of the country with the same or similar amounts of votes to be counted and were close to finishing by the time we were getting our first count,' he said. ' There were things happening over the weekend in Shoreline that we wouldn't desire in any democracy.' He said that there were cases of lack of cooperation between some counting staff and the tallymen. Cllr. Vance added that there is a case to be made for electronic voting.
