Web­mas­ter Car­roll is first elec­tion ca­su­alty

KEVIN CAR­ROLL from Wickow town who was con­test­ing a gen­eral elec­tion for the first time ever was the first ca­su­alty in Wick­low af­ter the first count was an­nounced.

Kevin who ran a web-based cam­paign re­ceived 74 first pref­er­ence votes and was elim­i­nated at the end of the first count and his votes re­dis­tributed.

Peren­nial can­di­date Ark­low's Jim Tal­lon was the third can­di­date to fall. He had polled 166 first pref­er­ence votes and re­ceived no trans­fers from Car­roll. Fol­low­ing the elim­i­na­tion of Thomas Clarke af­ter count two, he re­ceived three trans­fers and was elim­i­nated with 169 votes at the end of the third count.

Kil­coole's Char­lie Keddy sur­vived un­til the end of the sixth count and was elim­i­nated with a to­tal vote of 266.

He had re­ceived 233 first pref­er­ence votes pick­ing up three trans­fers from Car­roll, five from Clarke, 20 from Tal­lon, one from An­thony Fitzger­ald and four from Michael Mul­vi­hill putting him out of the frame.

Re­turn­ing Of­fi­cer Pa­tri­cia Casey opens the first bal­lot box at the Wick­low/East Car­low con­stituency Gen­eral elec­tion count in the Shore­line Cen­tre.
