Webmaster Carroll is first election casualty
KEVIN CARROLL from Wickow town who was contesting a general election for the first time ever was the first casualty in Wicklow after the first count was announced.
Kevin who ran a web-based campaign received 74 first preference votes and was eliminated at the end of the first count and his votes redistributed.
Perennial candidate Arklow's Jim Tallon was the third candidate to fall. He had polled 166 first preference votes and received no transfers from Carroll. Following the elimination of Thomas Clarke after count two, he received three transfers and was eliminated with 169 votes at the end of the third count.
Kilcoole's Charlie Keddy survived until the end of the sixth count and was eliminated with a total vote of 266.
He had received 233 first preference votes picking up three transfers from Carroll, five from Clarke, 20 from Tallon, one from Anthony Fitzgerald and four from Michael Mulvihill putting him out of the frame.
