Sullivan in early with praise for deputies

Bray People - - ELECTION 2011 - MARY FOGARTY

GREYSTONES COUNCILLOR James O’Sullivan jumped the gun slightly, by releasing a statement congratulating his Fine Gael colleagues before they were actually officially elected.

‘ I’m delighted to congratulate my three colleagues on their election to Dáil Éireann,’ said O’Sullivan on Saturday evening, referring to Andrew Doyle, Billy Timmins and Simon Harris.

The three candidates had all made triumphant entrances to the Greystones count centre that evening, when tally results put them clearly ahead of their opponents.

‘ I have been thrilled to work alongside our three candidates over the course of the election and commend each of them for running an admirable campaign.’

It might be splitting hairs somewhat, but the count was still underway, and the three men were not yet deputies.

‘ Wicklow’s three Fine Gael deputies provide balanced representation for our constituency,’ added James. ‘Andrew, Billy and Simon strike the balance between representing rural and urban life and experience and fresh thinking.’

Cllr. O’Sullivan is also optimistic that the trio will help to ‘ fix our economy, improve public services, overhaul the health sector, and most importantly, restore faith in our political system’.

Cllr. James O’Sullivan.
