Money gets votes - Mulvihill
WICKLOW TOWN'S Michael Mulvihill didn't ‘mind in the slightest' that he polled a lowly 196 votes and was eliminated after the fifth count on Saturday.
‘I don't mind at all, I don't mind in the slightest', he said when it was clear from the tallies that he wasn't at the races.
‘I had it weighed up before and it was either a win or a loss. There was too many of us in it but I am interested to see where the Number 2s go. There is going to be a lot of people walking out of here crying but I won't be one of them.
‘Money definitely gets you votes,’ said Michael.
Michael who has spent the last number of weeks trying to raise his profile said, ‘I'd say I will lose my deposit unless there is a miracle. A lot of people will be very disappointed today and looking at the vote it seems to be all Fine Gael and Sinn Féin.'
However, despite the poor showing Michael said he is not drawing the line under a further foray into the political arena. ‘If you had asked me three days ago I would have said no (I wouldn't do this again) but now I definitely would. The people on the doorsteps were receptive and I feel that people were truthful when they told me which way they were going to vote.'
Michael said he had felt compelled to throw his hat into the ring ‘ because a TD's position doesn't attract, in my opinion, the right type of people’.
