Fitzgerald not taking vandalism scandal to gardaí

BUSINESSMAN ADMITS DEFACING POSTERS

Bray People - - ELECTION 2011 - DEBORAH COLEMAN

ELIMINATED FIANNA FÁIL election candidate Cllr. Pat Fitzgerald has decided not to take action against a high-profile Arklow businessman who admitted defacing one of his campaign posters.

The businessman, who has since resigned from Fine Gael, made a full apology to Cllr. Fitzgerald this week but has refused to make any comment to the press on the matter.

The Wicklow People has learned that the vandalism was witnessed and captured on CCTV during an incident which saw the perpetra- tor use a spray can to deface the poster at Old Chapel Ground.

Cllr. Fitzgerald confirmed reports that another Fine Gael party member was present at the time of the incident but accepted that he had no part in it.

‘I find it shocking that an upstanding member of the community would stoop to such low levels. I have given him my views on the matter but will not be taking it further with Gardaí. I decided against raising the issue during my campaign to avoid accusations of electioneering. I am very disappointed over the matter,’ said Cllr. Fitzgerald.

Councillor Pat Fitzgerald.
