Katie Taylor to lead Dublin St. Patrick’s Parade
BRAY BRUISER Katie Taylor has been chosen to lead Dublin’s St.Patrick’s Day parade this year as Grand Marshall.
Deemed to have made a ‘ significant contribution’ to Irish sport and culture, the 24-year-old Bray woman is thrilled at the honour.
Katie has been boxing since she was 12, and has last year won her third World Championship gold medal in Barbados.
Others to have been at the helm of the capital’s parade include legendary goalie Packie Bonner, GAA commentator Micheal O Muircheartaigh and sprinter Eamonn Coghlan.
The traditional parade will take place on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, with the festival itself running from March 16 to 20.
Other attractions include the city ‘going green’ with festival organizers asking all businesses and venues to turn their lights green to create a citywide illumination.
Literature will play a big part in this year’s festival, as well as festival stalwarts such as the Céilí, Big Day Out and more.
