Green fingers out in force

Bray People - - NEWS -

ALLOTMENT HOLDERS at Festina Lente in Bray went back to their green fingered ways last week, when they started the growing season once more. Spring is in the air, and they know it. As well as the allotment holders, a few new community gardens have been set up in the much sought after plot in the Festina Lente walled garden on Old Connaught Road. 'Everyone had an enjoyable morning of discussion on the forthcoming season and soon got to work on their plans for the year,' said Anne Gleeson, gardens manager. 'If you would like to view our allotments, the walled Victorian garden, gift shop and plant centre, they are all open to the public seven days a week.' The Centre also facilitates a very successful garden allotment project for men affected by cancer in association with Bray Cancer Support. The project was devised in response to a concern raised by the Bray Cancer Support Centre who was experiencing problems with engaging male cancer patients in support services. In response to this, and in order to address the psychosocial support needs of men with cancer, an initiative was agreed which involved the men meeting in a neutral environment, the garden.
