Uneven road surfaces to be repaired in order of priority
UNEVEN ROADS surfaces across South Wicklow will be repaired in order of priority and some won’t be attended to due to the fact that the roads budget has been dramatically slashed this year.
Area engineers Jack Kennedy and Ruairí O’Hanlon explained to Arklow Area Councillors while they are still awaiting final figures they expect to see a dramatic reduction in funds available to them.
Mr. Kennedy said that last year’s allocation was €1.8m but this year he expects to receive €0.8m at best and Mr. O’Hanlon predicted his department will receive €0.75m in contrast with €1.6m last year.
Cllr. Sylvester Bourke outlined that certain areas have reached crisis point with potholes and said that it would be helpful for residents to know when they will be filled.
Both engineers explained that potholes were being constantly filled where possible and that teams are out on the job every day of the week.
Cllr. Pat Doran said that some roads are impassable and should be closed in the interest of safety.
One of the many roads across South Wicklow badly in need of repair.
