New Mercedes-Benz Vito scoops ‘Van of the Year’

THE new Mercedes-Benz Vito re­cently scooped the Ir­ish Van of the Year Award.

The new rear-wheel drive Vito, which comes with a num­ber of im­prove­ments - the most notable be­ing mea­sures to re­duce run­ning costs - was cho­sen win­ner of the 2011 award by mem­bers of the Ir­ish Mo­tor­ing Writers' As­so­ci­a­tion

Amongst its new fea­tures is the in­tro­duc­tion of new en­gines, a new drive sys­tem and new BlueEFFICIENCY tech­nol­ogy that de­liv­ers lower fuel con­sump­tion and re­duced emis­sions up to 15 per­cent lower than be­fore. Other changes in­clude a new chas­sis, bet­ter ride com­fort, in­creased pay­load, up­graded ap­point­ments in the driver and pas­sen­ger com­part­ment and a strik­ing new fa­cia. Ex­te­rior changes in­clude new re­flec­tor head­lamps and day­time driv­ing lights and a new up­graded front bumper de­sign.

Five units make up the new Vito range - four diesel and one petrol - be­gin­ning with the 95bhp four-cylin­der Vito 110 CDI fol­lowed by the 136bhp 113 CDI, a more pow­er­ful 116 CDI and a top-of-therange V6 224bhp 122 CDI. A V6 258bhp petrol ver­sion is also avail­able.
